Come to Your Senses with Melanie Masarin
Come to Your Senses with Melanie Masarin

2 minute read

We’ve always been partial to alchemists, and Melanie Masarin is no exception. As the founder of Ghia, she’s rethought the aperitif through fruits and botanicals, creating something rooted in ritual rather than alcohol.

From Mediterranean coastlines to the bustling cities of Paris and New York, Melanie’s life is a study in motion. Curious, colorful, and distinctly European in spirit, Melanie brings intention to the world of Ghia and beyond. In this segment of Come to Your Senses, we explore how the five senses shape the way she lives, creates, and gathers.

Season

What is your favorite scent memory?

Fresh garlic on my grandmother’s fingers.

What fragrance makes you feel most like yourself?

I don’t wear much fragrance for health reasons, but I love how a light spray in my hair adds instant personality. Right now I am into Strip Tease from Madame Grey.

Is there a scent, sound, or place that unlocks wonder for you?

The seaside in the South of France, where I grew up.

If your favorite season had a scent, what would it be?

Tomato leaves.

What sound quiets your mind instantly?

Rain. And the sound of my boyfriend sleeping next to me.

What’s the soundtrack to your slow mornings or most alive evenings?

It changes all the time, but lately it’s Rosalía’s new album and the new Blood Orange.

Is your mind quiet or loud?

Very loud.

What textures bring you back to your body?

Being barefoot. Walking on the wooden floors in my apartment in Paris.

What’s a daily ritual that feels like touch?

Every morning I make coffee and bring it back to bed for my boyfriend and me. We sit quietly together before the day starts moving fast.

What’s a flavor that feels like a memory?

Pomodoro.

What’s the most indulgent thing you’ve tasted lately?

I was in France for Christmas and my mom brought home oreillettes and sachristains from our local pastry shop. Crispy fried dough, orange blossom, almonds — so delicious and total sugar bombs.

What do you savor when you need to feel nourished?

Broth and soup. I keep chicken scraps and vegetable trimmings in the freezer and make broth. I’ll add pasta, maybe Sungold tomatoes if they’re in season. It’s simple and comforting.
