What do you seek out when you need to see something beautiful?
My 9 month old baby daughters face. Oak trees as far as the eyes can see. A bowl of lemons piled up high. Life by candlelight.

Where does your gaze linger when you need grounding?
The view of grapes and hills and sky from my wooden balcony rocking chair, with my wind chimes going.
What is your favorite scent memory?
The scent of the lemon and fig tree, growing in my mothers front yard, mixed with sea salt air, mixed with patchouli incense. My childhood in a nutshell. I grew up in Venice, CA one block from the beach.

What’s an unexpected scent you love?
I love the smell of a horse. It’s a scent that makes me so, so happy.
What fragrance makes you feel most like yourself?
Always and forever rose.
Is there a scent, sound, or place that unlocks that sense of wonder for you?
Wind chimes make me feel safe, like my belly can declench, like the world is still innocent and full of fairies.

If your favorite season had a scent, what would it be?
My favorite season is summer. I love the smell of smoke from a campfire or grill, I love the smell of fresh cut grass, I love the smell of sunshine on a wooden deck. I love the smell of honeysuckle that grow in summer, and salt from the ocean. I love the scent of the tiny but super flavorful strawberries that grow in my garden in summer.
What sound quiets your mind instantly?
My daughter babbling to herself in her crib in the morning. Wind chimes. The sound of the baby hawks in the nest above our house.
What’s the soundtrack to your slowest mornings or most alive evenings?
Sarah Jarosz or I’m With Her band in the mornings. In the evenings, Chet Baker or Brad Meldau or Samara Joy,
What do you hear when you’re fully present?
My breath.
Is your mind quiet or loud?
By nature, noisy and chatty. I have to make a real effort to find stillness.
What textures or materials bring you back to your body?
I love the feel of velvet. I love silk, and bamboo, and 100 percent cotton.
What’s a daily ritual that feels like a form of touch?
Being in water. I take so many baths, my husband teases me I’d spend 24 hours a day in the tub if it were socially acceptable.
When do you most crave softness?
If I am honest I am always craving softness.
What’s a flavor that feels like a memory?
Cilantro and lime. Growing up in LA cilantro and lime were put on everything and make me feel at home.

What’s the most indulgent thing you’ve tasted lately?
My husbands brown butter plum cake.
What do you savor when you need to feel nourished—body or soul?
Fresh lemon balm tea made from the lemon balm I planted in my yard three years ago.
